Even though she was born in Portland she spent her first 5 or 6 years of her life in a tiny town known as Boring where her family owned the beehive, though her mother was averse to bees and she was surrounded by farm animals and the farmland. The family didn't manage their bee farm for long since their parents split and lived in Montana before moving to Seattle for a brief period in time because her mother often changed jobs. Maria along with her entire family relocated to Minnesota. Then she participated in Apple Valley High School's prestigious Forensics Department as well as the National Forensic League. She became quite popular at high school. She even was elected as Homecoming Queen.
